Shirley A. (Kearns) Todd

Shirley A. Todd, 88, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully at home on April 15, 2024. She was born June 7, 1935, in Moundsville, WV, daughter of the late William F. and Pauline (Huntsman) Kearns. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Donald Vere Todd. Shirley is survived by four children, Anna (David) Scherb, David (Rosanna) Todd, Lisa (Stephen) Hall, and Sarah (Tony Chiancone) Vannatta; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She, like Don, loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and cherished their visits, especially during the holidays and during the summer at the “The Big Red House” in Chautauqua, NY.

Shirley and Don met and were high school sweethearts at Moundsville High School. They both attended Morehead State College on music scholarships, and she completed her degree in Chemistry in 1957. She then attended graduate school at West Virginia University, where she continued her studies in Chemistry. Shirley worked as a Chemist at the Mellon Institute and later taught Chemistry at Greensburg Central Catholic High School. She and Don traveled extensively, and her favorite destination was Yellowstone Park, but Shirley was always happiest at home taking care of her family. She was a wonderful cook, and loved to make delicious family meals and desserts, especially pie and bread.

The family wishes to thank Rebecca, Shawna, Kathy, Ashley, and Diana, and Amedisys Hospice for their loving care of Shirley and the entire family. Words cannot express how much you all mean to us.

Visitation for Shirley will be Thursday, April 18, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., Murrysville, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon at the funeral home. Interment will be a private service with the family. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Shirley’s memory to the Yellowstone Forever at Yellowstone.org or National Audubon Society at Audubon.org.
