Heaven opened its door for Mary Kathleen Stoops, 77, of Latrobe, PA, formerly of Plum, on Christmas Day, December 25, 2020 after her courageous 19 year battle with breast cancer. She was born May 30, 1943 in Wilmerding, daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Dency Kukurin. She earned her college degree from Slippery Rock University. Mary was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Youngstown, PA where she participated in the Rosary Society. She was also a former member of Our Lady of Joy Church in Plum. Mary is survived by her beloved husband, Darrel A. “Joe” Stoops of Latrobe; a daughter, Michele Stoops also of Latrobe; a sister, Barbara Melone of West Chester, PA; and a brother-in-law, Bill (Mary Ann) Stoops of Plum. She is also survived by a nephew, Ben (Missy) Melone; and a niece, Jessica (Lance) Leman. Visitation will be private with her family. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Youngstown PA. Interment will follow in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
