Caroline T. (Dixon) Barry

Caroline T. Barry, 89, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at The Willows of Presbyterian SeniorCare in Oakmont.  She was born on November 13, 1935, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Edward and Clara (Barthalow) Dixon.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Barry Sr., a son, Brian Barry, a grandson, Daniel Constant, her brothers, James Dixon, Patrick Dixon, John Dixon, and David Dixon, and a sister, Audrey Smith.

When she was born, she was bright pink in color, and the nurses wrote on her footprints, “best of luck to Pinky in your life.” This nickname stuck with her until her final days. She always liked to tell stories of her youth, helping her mother to support the family by working at an early age, being a “Soda Jerk” at the local Five and Ten store, working at Pepsi Cola as a secretary, and going to dances at Linden Grove are a few of her favorite ones. She was the 2nd oldest and had always felt the need to be a caregiver for her mother and siblings, especially helping her sisters that she called the “three little girls.” She met her future husband at the Five and Ten when she was 20 years old and was married 43+ years until he passed away in 1999 from leukemia. Together they had five children, six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren. Family and friends were very important to her. She spent most of her life as a homemaker and would do anything and everything for her family and did it well. If any of her friends ever needed her … she was the first one there. For years she shared the memories of hosting small gatherings with all of her friends at the Kingdom Hall (Jehovah’s Witness for 55 years), and how much fun she had doing this. Caroline loved butterflies and was amazed by how delicate, yet beautiful they were. She loved to cook and bake, making things like her own sauce using the iron skillet, and was known for baking and her baking talents, especially the Lady Lock cookies. It made her smile when dancing and singing to all types of music from the 1950’s to our present day. She also enjoyed decorating, homemaking, anything with flowers (from planting them to silk arrangements), and was a very spiritual person. Her faith was always a significant part of her life from her childhood until her final days. 

Caroline is survived by her children, Jack (Sandy) Barry, Michael Barry, Cheryl (David) Jones, and Carl (Jessica) Barry. She is also survived by her sisters, MaryLou MacMillian, Lynne Dixon, and Renee Roman; daughter-in-law, Cathy Barry; and her grandchildren, Nathan, Ashley, Bryan, Sean, Eian, Taylor, and Sabrina.

A private visitation for Caroline will be held at Hart Funeral Home Inc., in Murrysville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Salvation Army, www.salvationarmyusa.org, in Caroline’s name. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate her life within the next several weeks.
