Carolyn Allen, 71, of Murrysville, passed away on September 2, 2023, surrounded by family. Born in New Castle, Pennsylvania, she was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Robert Allen. She is survived by her son Jonathan, daughter-in-law Liza, grandsons Parker and Max, brother Paul (Nancy) Cummings, sister-in-law Lucie, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Carolyn battled chronic liver disease with unwavering resolve and determination throughout her life, ever grateful for her time and always motivated by ‘extra’ years with family and friends. After attending IUP for education, Carolyn was a passionate high school chemistry teacher until her early retirement in 1989 due to health issues, after which she dedicated herself to being a stay-at-home mother to Jonathan.
A woman of deep faith, Carolyn played an active leadership role and volunteered extensively with various religious organizations, particularly at the First United Methodist Church in Murrysville, PA, where she formed many deep friendships. Carolyn found great joy in her pets, her garden, family trips to Lake Erie, sitting around a campfire, and spending time with her loving neighbors on Sunset Circle. She will be missed by so many.
Family and friends will be received for visitation from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 6 th, 2023 at HART FUNERAL HOME in Murrysville, PA. A funeral will be held at 1pm on Thursday, September 7 th, 2023 at the First United Methodist Church in Murrysville. Please meet directly at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Carolyn’s name may be made to Magee-Womens Foundation, directed to the NICU, at 3240 Craft Place, Suite 100, Pittsburgh, PA 15213; Attention: Gift Processing, or via https://mageewomens.org/support.
