Clyde W. Martz, 87, of Murrysville, PA passed away August 24, 2021. He was born in rural Westmoreland County in 1934 to Edwin and Ellen Martz where he grew up hunting and fishing with his father and brother, Charles (Carol) Martz of Mechanicsburg, PA. Clyde studied nuclear physics at the university level and taught math and physics at Waynesburg College and engineering physics at the University of Pittsburgh. He was then recruited by Westinghouse to work at the Bettis Atomic Power Plant and taught reactor physics and nuclear design to Admiral Rickover’s staff. He also developed nuclear fuel loadings in the design of nuclear submarines and held many technical and management positions for Westinghouse throughout his career. After retiring from Westinghouse in 1992, he founded the Pittsburgh Human Resource Group (PHRG), a company consisting of senior consultants who provided consulting, training, and project services in human resources. In 1965 he formed the Imperial Horseshoe Company that manufactured professional pitching horseshoes. In 1970, 1973 and 1985, he won the PA state horseshoe pitching championships and was ranked fifth in the nation in 1971. He was also an avid trap shooter. Over the years he has won numerous state, local and regional tournaments including the Senior Veterans Singles Champion of Champions at the Grand American held in Vandalia, Ohio in 2005. He wrote a booklet in 2012 called Trapshooting Techniques that can be found on amazon.com. Another of his loves was sailing which he pursued with his wife of 32 years, Sue Gillespie of Portland, IN. They sailed the Chesapeake Bay together for 25 years. There was nothing he liked better than to take his family sailing whenever he could convince them to do so! He was very proud of his daughters, Susan Martz, Holly (Mark) Charydczak, Cathy Martz (deceased 2009), and Gloria (Denny) Kuchcinski Crawford.  His grandchildren included Adam (Kristen) Loughry, Sophia Loughry, Bryce Charydczak, Jenna Charydczak, Austin Myers, and Catelin Crawford. Visitation Saturday, September 4, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. with a Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. at the Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville.
