Donald T. Rickey, 91, of Penn Hills, passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 14, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born December 11, 1932, in Ingram, PA, son of the late Thomas and Hazel (Mathew) Rickey. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.
Don operated a very successful home-remodeling business, with his quality craftsmanship and hard work ethic earning him a stellar reputation. He thoroughly enjoyed his work and stayed very physically fit, allowing him to share his energy with his family in many active and adventurous outdoor activities. Don loved to share his passion for boating, water-skiing, ice skating, biking, golf, archery, and he even gave club square-dancing a whirl. He also was generous in sharing his many talents for the benefit of others, including delighting those who would hear him play the chromatic harmonica and console organ, all by ear. Don proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. His pleasant sense of humor, charming smile, and practical knowledge of many things gained him many friends and endeared him even more to his loving family and will always be remembered fondly.
Don is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty (Mort) Rickey; four daughters, Sharon (Harry) Hoff, Nina (John Chambers) Helsel, Rita (Steve) Feltovich, and Rhonda (Vince) Yankauskas; 14 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
