Donald Sayre Obituary

Donald Alan Sayre, 82, of Export, beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother passed away peacefully on May 10, 2026.

He lived a life full of fun and adventure. He was born to loving parents in New Jersey, who moved to Iowa when he was two.  Don grew up in Iowa and graduated from high school in Des Moines. He started college at the University of Iowa and met Marcia at a Church Camp before he eventually transferred and graduated from Simpson College in Iowa. They were married after he completed his bachelor's degree and then moved to Minneapolis, where he started working for Westinghouse. He joined the United States Air Force and did his officer's training in Texas before being stationed in Duluth, Minnesota. Once out of the Air Force he went back to work for Westinghouse Electric, starting in Minneapolis, then being transferred to Seattle, Denver, and eventually Pittsburgh, holding various positions. He and Marcia raised two sons, Kevin and Jeffrey along the way.

He was active in the First United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, and was a Trustee's chairman. He was a member of the Lions Club International, and a Boy Scouts of America Troop Leader. He was also an avid golfer, playing in multiple golf leagues throughout the years, he played softball, volleyball, and loved skiing and camping.

He helped the church on many mission trips, with the Youth Group in West Virginia and helped the church in other ways, both in Mexico and New Orleans. He picked up a love for photography from his father and loved woodworking with the several pieces of equipment he inherited from his father.

Don loved family vacations, visiting many locations across the country from Alaska to Florida and many places in between. His greatest joys in life were spending time with his wife, sons, and grandchildren.

He leaves behind a wife, Marcia, of 59 years; two sons, Kevin and Jeffrey; four grandchildren, Mason, Tristan, Greyson and Raegan; a sister, Ellen Taylor-Harrison (Harvey); a nephew, Jon Taylor (Chanda); a niece, Elizabeth Brewer-Courtois; great-nephews, Ollie and Abe; as well as his wife’s siblings, spouses and children.

He was proceeded in death by his mother, Catharine Sayre-Wegner; his father, Jack Sayre; his stepfather, Waldo Wegner; a sister, Jane Brewer; brother-in-law Don Brewer; and his niece, Barb Brewer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First United Methodist Church of Murrysville, the Murrysville Lions Club, or the Alzheimer's Association.
