Dr. Steven Sotos

Dr. Steven Sotos, 79 of Murrysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, September 2, 2022 at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville, PA.  He was born April 10, 1943 in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, son of the late Nicholas Stephanos and Iphigeneia Sakellariou Sotos.  He completed his undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh and his M.D. at the University of Athens Greece in 1971.  He completed a Family Practice Internship at Shadyside Hospital, an Internal Medicine Residency at St. Francis Hospital, and his Pulmonary Fellowship at Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH.  After his schooling, he joined Dr. SS Grover MD Associates in 1976 and stayed with the group until he retired in April 2021.  He was well known at Monsour Hospital, Jeannette Hospital, Columbia Hospital, LifeCare, UPMC East, and for spending 43 years at Forbes Hospital.  Dr. Sotos was an extremely dedicated physician who considered the hospital his second home and the people he worked with his extended family.  When he was needed or called in, he never hesitated, his patients always came first.  He belonged to the American Medical Association, Pennsylvania Medical Society, American College of Chest Physicians.  His hobbies included gardening, steelhead fishing in Erie, and classic cars.  He was also a member of the Eagles, the Moose, Export Italian American Club, and the Roosevelt Club in Greensburg.  He was a loving husband, father, and Papou.  He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Vilma (Vidra) Sotos; his children, Nicholas Sotos of Pittsburgh and Stephanie (Brian) Blackwell of Zelienople.  He had one grandchild, Brooke Blackwell, and she adored her Papou; they both loved Face Timing while he was ill.  He is also survived by his three brothers, Andrew of Wilkins Township, his twin brother, Larry (Pamela) of Kittanning, and Peter (Kristina) of Sarver.  His is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, friends, and colleagues.  Family and Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m and 6-8 p.m on Tuesday and Wednesday at Hart Funeral Home Inc., 3103 Lillian Avenue, Murrysville, PA 15668.  A Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday in Deer Creek Cemetery, Cheswick.
