Edward Banks Obituary

Edward John Banks, 94, of Murrysville, formerly of Penn Hills and Pittsburgh, passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022.  He was born May 29, 1928, in Pittsburgh, PA, son of the late John Banks and Wanda Mizgorski Banks (Bankowski). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Betty Banks and Ruth Reed Banks, a grandson, Robert Mathew Marsiglio.

In Pittsburgh, he attended Garfield Grade School, Peabody High School and the University of Pittsburgh.  He served two years in the US Occupation Army in Japan during WWII.  He and his father started Engineering Sales and Services in Pittsburgh in 1953 that later became Banks Engineering Company Inc. (BECO) where they served the industrial community in Western Pennsylvania and adjoining areas.  They were well known for their expertise in Hydraulics and Pneumatics equipment and systems.  BECO designed and built special equipment, many of which still operate today.  When the economy declined in the late 1970’s, he and his father decided they should diversify and opened Banks Equipment, selling their own power equipment. They established a hardware store and equipment rental known as the Grand Rental Station which existed until the late 1990’s.  Ed remained active, providing parts to his BECO customers online until his death.

He was active in Post 711 American Legion, Murrysville Historical Society, VFW, and the East Suburban Chamber of Commerce.  He also served in Rotary as past President and Vice President.  Under the sponsorship of the East Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Rotary, Ed orchestrated the Murrysville 4th of July Fireworks, which included cannon fire for seventeen years. He was active in the Executive East Motorhome Club and was involved in the Peabody High School Fabulous Forties Reunion Committee for 24 years.

Ed is survived by one daughter, Patricia Banks Clark; a granddaughter, Amanda Marsiglio Stasny (Christopher Michael); three great grandchildren, Andrew, Aubrey and Christopher. Funeral services were private with his family. Hart Funeral Home, Inc., Murrysville entrusted with arrangements. www.hartfuneralhomeinc.com
