It is with enormous sadness that we share the news that Eric Thomas Malloy, 47, of Jeannette, formerly of Murrysville, passed away in his home early Thursday morning, February 22, 2024, with his family by his side. Eric, born March 28, 1976, was the proud and loving father of Destiney Malloy, cherished son of Thomas Malloy and the late Patricia (Kachurik) Malloy, and loving brother of Aimee (Malloy) Ableman.
Eric was a graduate of The Children’s Institute (formerly The Rehabilitation Institute) in Pittsburgh and Franklin Regional High School class of 1996. After graduation, Eric attended Hiram G. Andrew’s Center and Commonwealth Technical Institute in Johnstown where he took classes in watch repair, a pursuit that fit his unique ability and patience to sit for hours working on a Lego project and his childhood trait of taking things apart.
A friend to everyone he met, many in our community knew Eric as “Eric from Wal-Mart”, and that distinction would follow him far and wide. Eric was an Associate at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Delmont and just reached his 20-year employment milestone in August. Outside of work, Eric enjoyed spending time with his daughter and dad, fishing, taking care of his home aquarium, bowling with his work friends, learning new recipes and cooking techniques with his friend, and he had been an avid WWE fan since the ‘80s glory of Hulk Hogan!
His loyalty to his Pittsburgh sports teams was only surpassed by his loyalty to good friends and family. He will be missed deeply. In addition to his immediate family, Eric is survived by his brother-in-law, Mark Ableman of Connecticut, two nieces, Chloe and Cameron Ableman, several aunts, uncles, and countless cousins.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made, in Eric’s name, to the charity of one’s choice. Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville. A Funeral Mass for Eric will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2024, at St. Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes, Church in Export. Entombment will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.
