Evelyn Louise (Hickox) Gilbreath

Loved by all who knew her, Evelyn Louise (Hickox) Gilbreath passed away peacefully on November 5, 2025 surrounded by family and friends at Redstone Highlands in Murrysville PA. She was 90 years old. 

She was born in Washington DC to Malcolm and Louise (Wildman) Hickox. She was married to the late Rodney Gilbreath in 1957.  She was the apple of his eye. 

She loved spending time with her family and was the loving mother of David (Lynn Schraf) Gilbreath and Diane (Tom) Urmston:  Adoring Grandmother of Morgan Gilbreath (Ryan Tanner), Chris Urmston. Jennifer Urmston (Chris Kogan) and Daniel Urmston.  Sister of Richard “Dick” (Anne) Hickox.  And sister-in-law to Jan (Joe - deceased) West. Aunt Evelyn to Paul (Ellen) Hickox, Susan Burke and Jeffrey (Tashera) Hickox, Jeff (Rhonda) West and Jay (Christal) West.  

As a young child her family moved to Ithaca NY and then to Forest Hills where she grew up. After graduating as the Salutatorian from Wilkinsburg High School she continued her education at Bucknell University where she graduated with a degree in Sociology.  

She had a very strong faith and was actively involved in Wilkinsburg Baptist Church and Holiday Park United Methodist Church. She was involved in the AAUW organization, many book clubs and Bridge clubs.  She volunteered at the voting tables and also worked at Community Kindergarten for several years. 

There will be a memorial service at 1:00pm on Saturday December 13, 2025 at Holiday Park United Methodist Church, 81 Sandune Drive, Pittsburgh PA 15239.  Following the service, all are welcome to join us for a luncheon at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holiday Park United Methodist Church in Evelyn’s name.
