George W. Strickland, 86, of Export, passed away Friday, February 18, 2022, at the William Penn Care Center in Jeannette. He was born November 20, 1935, in Palm Beach County, FL. Son of the late George and Theresa Warren Strickland. In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by a son, Gregg Strickland. George was a graduate of Miami Senior High School and Florida State University prior to joining the US Navy. In the Navy, he developed his passion for aviation. He proudly served his country for nine years before retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He later became a Commercial Pilot with Trans World Airlines where he remained for 21 years until his retirement. He then worked alongside his wife and children, helping to operate their family restaurant “Dick’s Diner“ for many years after retirement. George is survived by his wife of 52 years, Betty Snyder Strickland; Daughter, Kimberley (Danny) Hernandez, and sons, Keith, Michael (Faith) and Andrew (Maura). Also surviving are his two grandchildren, Brittany and Mitchell Hernandez; and his two special friends, Curtis and Kaelyn Campbell. George also leaves behind too many great friends and “Flying Buddies” to possibly list. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff at The William Penn Care Center for their compassion and loving care during George’s final days. At George’s request funeral services will be private.
