Harry McKee Obituary

Harry G. McKee, 88, of Murrysville, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2023. He was born November 10, 1934, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Harry and Ruth Grove McKee. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Donald McKee and Joseph (Jean) McKee.

Harry will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He was a kind soul. He was gentle, thoughtful, patient and supportive. Harry had a quick wit, was charming and would sing "little ditties" much to the delight of his family. Harry loved sports, but baseball and the Pittsburgh Pirates were his #1 sports team. Hed' take Sandy and Gary to Forbes Field when they were young. They became big fans for Roberto Clemente and Willie Stargell. He never missed a game of the Pittsburgh Steelers either. In his retirement, golf became a favorite pastime with his friends. He would also deliver Meals on Wheels in Wilkinsburg for years with his brother Don.

Harry met his wife Ellen at Wilkinsburg High School where they started dating. He got his engineering degree at Penn State University, and soon after graduation he married Ellen, his high school sweetheart. They raised their family in Penn Hills and attended the Wilkinsburg Baptist Church where Ellen and Harry were married. They made many wonderful friends here who are still an important part of their lives today.

Harry was a Veteran of the US Army and an Engineer for Westinghouse. He raised his family in Penn Hills but moved to Murrysville in his retirement. He and Ellen were actively involved in their new Murrysville church, Newlonsburg Presbyterian. They again found a new church family that they've become very close to.

For over 40 consecutive years Harry and Ellen enjoyed vacationing with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren at Deer Valley YMCA Camp. Here they once again added to their large circle of lifelong friends who are still a very important part of their lives today. They travelled to Myrtle Beach, Florida, Alaska, Italy and Ireland with some of them as well.

Harry is survived by his wife, Ellen C. McKee, three children, Saundra “Sandy” (David) O’Block, Gary (Patty) McKee, Megan (Michael) Kuhn; seven grandchildren, Theresa (Zac) Grunberg, Nicole O’Block, Sean (Olivia) O’Block, Briana (Gary) Allen, Aubrey (T.J.) McKee, Katherine Kuhn, Gabriel Kuhn; three great grandchildren, Hayley & Jackson Grunberg, Quinley Allen; 5 nephews and a niece.

Harry's family would like to thank the staff and medical personnel of Redstone Highlands in Murrysville for their loving and patient care of Harry in the past year. They've become family and took great care of him. Everyone who interacted with Harry in Memory Care had only the nicest things to say about him.
