Hazel Simon, 101, of Murrysville, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Forbes Hospital. She was born December 31, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of the late Theodore and Lillian Wilk Simmons. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Murray J. Simon; a son-in-law, John J Bittner.
Hazel enjoyed watching sports, including the NY Yankees and the NY Knicks. She was an incredible knitter and has made many blankets, sweaters, baby hats, scarves and wash cloths. She knitted till the day she died! Hazel could never resist her daily piece (or two) of chocolate. Her other hobbies were playing Rummikub, card games, bingo and watching the game show channel.
The grandchildren always asked her to cook pot roast, spaghetti and meatballs and potato omelets. Hazel always loved Chinese food; especially chicken chow mein.
Hazel is survived by three daughters, Sharon Schwartz, Barbara (John) Wilson, and Felice Bittner; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at which time a Funeral Service will be held at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., 3103 Lillian Avenue, Murrysville, PA. www.hartfuneralhomeinc.com
