Helge Skreppen, beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully, surrounded by love. Born on January 10, 1933, in Åmot i Modum, Norway, Helge was the son of Arthur and Constanse Skreppen, who preceded him in death.
A man of deep curiosity and determination, Helge’s early years were shaped by a restless intellect. Growing up in a small, quiet town, he devoured books on why reaching the moon was impossible, though life would later prove otherwise. He questioned convention, refusing to follow in his father’s footsteps simply because it was expected. Instead, he pursued answers, challenging the limits of knowledge, especially when faced with formulas containing letters that his teachers could not explain.
Helge served in the Norwegian armed forces, achieving the rank of Lieutenant while saving for his education. His pursuit of knowledge led him to Scotland, where he furthered his studies before working in the Netherlands and Norway. In 1967, he moved to the United States for an opportunity as a mechanical engineer in the Nuclear Division of his company. Never one to stop learning, Helge later earned his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh, further solidifying his passion for problem-solving and innovation.
For over 50 years, Helge made his home in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, where he built a life filled with adventure, intellect, and passion. A man of action as much as thought, he flew his private plane out of Latrobe, skied, and scuba-dived across the globe. Above all else, Helge cherished his family. He is survived by his two sons, Ulf (Anne) and Glenn (Linda) Skreppen, and his beloved grandchildren, Emma, Sam, Jason, and Eden. They were always in his heart and thoughts, until his very last breath. As he embarks on his final journey, we honor the life of a man who never stopped questioning, exploring, and loving. HJEM TIL NORGE.
