J. Robert “Bob” Stemler, 90, of Murrysville, PA passed away peacefully Saturday, October 2, 2021, at Arden Courts in Monroeville, PA.  He was born February 13, 1931, in Baltimore, MD, son of the late Raymond H. and Alma C. (Winter) Stemler.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife, Joan L. Stemler in 1997.  Bob and Joan met in Baltimore as high school sweethearts and were married for 43 years.  He and Joan were longtime members of the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville. 

Bob graduated with honors from Lehigh University with a B.S. Civil Engineering in 1954.  He was a proud and active alumnus and a brother of the Chi Phi Fraternity.  Upon graduation, went on to work for Alcoa Corporation (Aluminum Company of America) as an engineer where he held several management positions in research &  development.  Bob was a dedicated employee for over 38 years holding several US patents and awards.  Upon retirement, Bob was a board member and passionate volunteer for several non-profit groups including the American Red Cross, United Way of Westmoreland County, Meals on Wheels Murrysville, Arc Westmoreland, Arc Westmoreland Foundation and the Community Foundation of Westmoreland County.  Further, Bob was responsible for the management, design and construction of the Arc Westmoreland, J. Robert Stemler Programs Center dedicated March 11, 2001 a twenty-seven thousand square foot activity center located in Greensburg, PA.

Bob is survived by and will be dearly missed by his daughter, Linda A. Stemler of Clarksburg, WV, and three sons, Jay R. (Amy) Stemler of Mound, MN, Gregory J. Stemler of Lake Forest, IL and Gary R. (Mechelle) Stemler of Excelsior, MN; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren;

Bob will also be missed by his dear friend, companion and love of the last 22 years, Karen Hilty of Murrysville. Karen and Bob were deeply devoted to each other and each other’s families.  We are truly grateful that Karen and Bob were able to enjoy each other and share their retirement years together.  Karen will always and forever be an enduring and loving member of our family.

Bob loved his family; he was their greatest advocate and took pride in their successes. He was adored by his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a constant presence throughout their lives.  They could always count on him to be their biggest fan and advocate in all of their achievements.

Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 8, 2021, at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., Murrysville, PA.  A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., Murrysville. Interment will follow at Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.  The Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support. https://pittsburghfoundation.org/stemler
