James F. Bence, 88, of Murrysville, passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at Canterbury Place, Pittsburgh. He was born May 31, 1934, in Homewood, son of the late John “Joe” and Nora Connor Bence. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Charles “Bobby” Bence and John “Jack” Bence.
Jim was a veteran of the US Marine Corp, having served during the Korean War. He was a member of Mother of Sorrows Parish and the Italian Club. Prior to retirement, he worked with the road crew for the Municipality of Murrysville. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed cooking.
Jim is survived by his wife of over 68 years, Rose Ann “Cookie” (Teets) Bence; two children, James (Jacqueline) Bence, Deborah (Michael) Morgan; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Marie Cleary. Visitation is from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Hart Funeral Home, Inc. Parting prayers will be held 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a 12:00 p.m. Mass at Mother of Sorrows Parish.
