James R. Geiger, 75, formerly of Murrysville, passed away on December 4, 2021. Jim was born and lived most of his life in Murrysville, PA where he raised his own family, before eventually retiring to Selbyville, DE.  He was born to the late Vincent and Elizabeth Noble Geiger on August 5, 1946 and was a 1964 graduate of Franklin Regional High School and a 1969 graduate of Penn State University.  Jim also served in the US Army Reserves, stationed in Fort Meade, MD.  Jim had a lengthy career in commercial real estate, working for Equitable, Mellon Bank and Grant Street Associates.  He was also a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Murrysville and president of the Murrysville Golf Club for several years.

Jim lived his life fully devoted to his family, his profession, the sport of golf and Penn State.  Spending his childhood on the grounds of Murrysville Golf Course, which was built and run by his family from 1932-2016, he honed his game as a high schooler and eventually as an honorary All-American golfer for Penn State.  Jim continued playing competitively, then solely for the pleasure of it, and enjoyed many trips to Scotland, Ireland, England and throughout the US where he played some of the world’s best courses.  He shared a love of travel (particularly the beach in Fenwick Island, DE) and family time with his wife and children.  He was a passionate supporter of all things Penn State as an active season ticket holder, supporter of the golf program and enthusiast of the college Creamery.  He was an extremely dedicated colleague and friend, considered to be kind, compassionate and often entertaining by all who worked or played a round with him.  And even though his kids did not follow in his golfing footsteps, their endeavors and families were nonetheless a source of great pride to him.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 48 years, Sharon Geiger; children, Allyson Doorley (Kevin) of Murrysville and Bradley Geiger (Leigh) of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Meagan and Hannah Doorley and Reagan and Ella Geiger; sister Kathryn Shuster and brother Robert Geiger; as well as numerous relatives and many, many friends.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2021 at Hart Funeral Home, Inc. Murrysville.  A Funeral Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, at First Presbyterian Church, Murrysville. Everyone please meet at church. Interment to follow in the church cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any Dementia/Alzheimer’s awareness foundation or to the First Presbyterian Church of Murrysville.
