James Krauss of Murrysville, PA passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 12th. Jim was a long time resident of Murrysville, having moved here to work at the Westinghouse Energy Center in Monroeville. Previously, he was a VP for West Valley Nuclear Services Company in West Valley, NY, a division of Westinghouse. He began his 30-year career with Westinghouse at the Bettis Atomic Power Lab in West Mifflin and also worked for Westinghouse in Idaho and Colorado. Jim graduated from Penn State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He is survived by his daughter Michele, his son Mark (Carrie), his daughter Amy (Mark) and his grandchildren Luke and Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Joanne, whom he met in their hometown of St. Marys, PA.
Jim enjoyed a variety of hobbies including woodworking, gardening, Sudoku, watching Steelers football and taking day trips throughout Western Pennsylvania. After retiring, he traveled to cities in England and Ireland, as well as wilderness sites in Alaska and Minnesota on family vacations. He also traveled extensively in the western US where he lived for several years. Jim was beloved by his family. He was a kind, generous, supportive, and fun, husband, father and grandfather, and his family will miss him forever. Services will be private.
