James D. Walko, 87, of Murrysville, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023.
He was born May 22, 1936, in Pitcairn, son of the late John and Julia Walko.
Jim graduated from Duquesne University’s Pharmacy program in 1958. He owned
and operated Murrysville Pharmacy for 20 years before opening Holiday Park
Pharmacy, which he owned/operated for another 20 years before retiring in
2000. Jim joined the Murrysville-Export Rotary club in 1959 and was very active
with the club until recent years, as his health began failing. He regularly
volunteered at countless Rotary activities over the years like carnivals, chicken-a-
go-go, Halloween Parades, and multiphasic blood screenings. He was also very
involved with the fundraising for the Miracle Field. Jim was a Paul Harris Fellow
and held the positions of President, Secretary, and Treasurer before becoming
District Governor in 1979-1980. Jim enjoyed golf and spending time with friends
at Edgewood Country Club. He loved watching the Pirates and especially the
Steelers – having season tickets since Forbes Field. He was also a member of
Mother of Sorrows Parish, and a veteran of the US Air Force.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Patricia, and his brother
Richard. He is survived by his three children, Lori (Ronald) Bartolotta of Export,
PA, James R. (Bonnie) Walko of Cary, NC, and Susan (Hunter) Young of Roanoke,
VA; five grandchildren, Anthony, Zachary and Andrea Bartolotta, and Danielle and
Nicole Walko; a sister, Nadine Simpson of Manassas, VA and brother-in-law,
Harold Fundis (Frankie).
The family wishes to thank the Redstone Personal Care nurses and staff for the
excellent care they gave him while living there.
