Jerome “Jerry” Burgman, 89, of Murrysville, passed away on December 5, 2024, at his home.
He was born September 12, 1935, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Herbert G. Burgman and Marie
(Halterlein) Burgman.
Jerry leaves behind a rich legacy of faith, family and fun. An avid reader of theology, science
and history he inspired and challenged the people around him to read and debate. Much to the
chagrin of his daughters, he would also read the occasional Mario Puzo novel. A Renaissance
Man, Jerry enjoyed Pittsburgh Symphony concerts, the Steelers, and any event featuring one of
his grandchildren. He was an accomplished woodworker, and his family treasures the furniture
he crafted and gifted. Jerry liked hiking, canoeing, kayaking, and traveling, especially to
National Parks and the great state of New Mexico. Jerry spent many happy years at Barth
Cottage in Eagles Mere, PA playing host to family and friends and creating memories. A
graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, Jerry retired in 1999 from PPG Industries after a
40-year career in research and development. Upon retiring, he spent several years studying
theology at St. Vincent College and teaching RCIA classes at Mother of Sorrows Parish.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Matthews Burgman; three children, Linda (Jim)
Feczko, Karen (Mark) Munson, and Michael Burgman; eight grandchildren, Andrew (Samantha)
Feczko, Matthew Feczko, Kathryn (Khalil) Boussi, Nora (Rahul Iyer) Munson, Thomas
(Madeline Collins) Munson, Daniel Munson, Melissa (Robert) Brobst, Cherisse (Mike) Arnold;
and seven great-grandchildren, Amy, Vivienne, Kailene, Isabella, Robert, Niko and Makayla. He
is also survived by a brother, Herbert A. Burgman, and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mother of Sorrows Parish, 4202 Old William Penn Hwy, Murrysville, PA.
