John R. Gibbon Sr.

John R. Gibbon Sr., 89, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully Thursday, September 8, 2022, at his home. He was born March 29, 1933, in Hazelton, PA, son of the late Joseph and Ida Lewis Gibbon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Gladys (Robert) Shaw. 

John earned his engineering degree from Carnegie Mellon and Dennison Universities followed by Honorable service in the US Navy.  He followed his education with a fulfilling career as an engineer primarily with Westinghouse.  A loving husband and wonderful father, he and his daughter Gwen never missed a Bills, Steelers, Pirates or Penguins game.  He loved golfing, bowling and watching his son play sports.  He was a gifted coach for his son’s baseball teams, including an undefeated championship season in the Tonawanda News League - legion baseball.

John is survived by his wife, Elaine Gibbon; a son, John R. (Tricia) Gibbon; a daughter, Gwen Gibbon; a grandson, Joshua J. Gibbon; nieces and nephews, Dan, Judy, Bonnie and Rob.
