Joseph A. Berton, 90, of Murrysville, passed away Saturday, April 17, 2021 at home. He was born November 12, 1930 in Braddock, son of the late Stephan and Anna Berton. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Steve (Margie) Berton and Albert Berton. Prior to retirement, he was a Group Leader for MSA and was a member of Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville. He proudly served in the USAF during the Korean War, where he was a Survival Instructor. Joseph is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Michlovic, and his children, Monica (Patrick) Cherniawski, Marie (Michael) Lasher, Joseph (Rebecca) Berton and Philip (Beatrice) Berton; grandsons, Jack, Ian and Matthew; a sister-in-law, Gina Berton and many nieces and nephews. Joe was a cheerful, friendly soul, who loved chatting with people and was always ready to greet you with a big smile or a warm hug. He was an athlete most of his life, playing all the major sports in high school and excelled in football becoming a Braddock Tigers All Star and MVP in 1949. Joe became a runner and ran many 10k races and several Marathons; his last being the Marine Marathon in Washington DC, which he ran in his 60’s. He would participate with his kids in almost any activity; baseball, sled riding, and learned to snow and ski with the family in Colorado when he was 64. He saw all four of his kids graduate college and become professionals in their fields. Visitation Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 2 p. m. to 7 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., Murrysville. Additional visitation Friday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, with a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. Private interment will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
