Joseph D. Merlin, age 91, went home to be with Jesus peacefully on April 6, 2026.
Born on October 1, 1934, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, Joe was the son of the late Joseph and Lois Merlin.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 51 years, Rosalie Merlin. He is survived by his loving wife, Donna; his two sons, Mark (Agnes) and Robert (Sondra); and his cherished grandchildren, Joseph, Grace, Graham, Sam, and Emmanuel. He was also the proud great-grandfather of Wesley. In addition, he is survived by his stepson, Eric Schott.
Joe found great joy throughout his life in the game of golf, which was his favorite pastime. He took special pride in teaching his grandson Joseph the sport, who went on to become a golf professional. Joe will be remembered on the fairways and greens he loved so much, where his patience, kindness, and love of the game were always on full display. His legacy lives on in every swing, every lesson shared, and in the family he so dearly loved. He will be deeply missed.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army at Fort Knox for two years. Following his military service, he dedicated 40 years to Peoples Natural Gas Company, where he retired as a Superintendent.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., 3103 Lillian Avenue, Murrysville, PA 15668.
