Kenneth H. “Ken” Munson Jr., 58, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully December 19, 2025, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 9, 1967, in Pittsburgh, son of Kenneth H. Sr. and Lois (Pierro) Munson.
As a proud Navy veteran, devoted husband and father, cherished son, and trusted mentor, Ken was deeply respected by colleagues and loved by friends. Throughout his life, Ken approached every challenge with thoughtfulness, humility, and a strong sense of purpose.
Ken was a graduate of The Pennsylvania State University in Electrical Engineering, where he was a member of Penn State ROTC. Ken later went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Operations Research from the Naval Postgraduate School as well as an MBA from Texas Christian University.
After ten years as a Surface Warfare Officer in the US Navy, Ken transitioned into the private sector, working as a PreSales Consultant for i2, Military Operations Analyst for Lockheed Martin, Senior Management Systems Analyst at the RAND Corporation, and Director of Program Management at Nokomis.
Ken is survived by his loving wife, Michelle R. (Smith) Munson; his two sons, Nicholas Reed (Yang Yue) Munson, and Christopher Troy Munson; a sister, Victoria (Mark) Roessler; his nephew, Trevor Roessler, and his niece, Kara Roessler.
Visitation for Ken will be Saturday, December 27, 2025, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville. Parting prayers will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville at 10:00 a.m. Military Honors will be accorded by the United States Navy at the church at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be directed to research at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Please make checks payable to the University of Pittsburgh.
