Kevin Higgins

Kevin Higgins, 87 of Plum, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023.  He was born October 1, 1935 in Pittsburgh, son of the late Thomas and Elizabeth Lehane Higgins.  In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Elizabeth Higgins in 1981; two sisters, Jean Farrell and Rosemarie Zwergel; and two brothers, Thomas Higgins and Daniel Higgins.  After graduating from highschool, Kevin served our country in the U.S. Army in Austria and in Germany.  He worked as a Breadman for Drake’s Baking Co. prior to his retirement.  He was a member of Our Lady of Joy Parish, Plum since it’s opening in 1972.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post 980.  He is survived by four children, Kathleen (James) Chermak, Kevin M. Higgins, Pat (Kathy), and Shawn K. Higgins; six grandchildren, Kelly, Kimberly, Nick, Bethany, Megan, and David; five great-grandchildren, Miles, Harriet, Liam, Aiden, and Genevieve; a sister, Gladys Tedesco; dear friend, Claudette “Sam” Thorton; and numerous nieces and nephews.  Per Kevin’s request, there will be no visitation.  A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, February 24, 2023 at Our Lady of Joy Parish, Plum at 10:30 a.m.  Everyone Please Meet at the Church.  Interment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Pittsburgh with military honors accorded by American Legion Post #980 and U.S. Army honor guard.  If desired, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post# 980, 7824 Saltsburg Rd, Pittsburgh, Pa 15239.
