Kevin Wallace MacKelvie, 63 of Penn Township passed away suddenly on Tuesday, September 14, 2021.  He was born February 3, 1958 in New York City, son of the late Jock and Carol Beery MacKelvie, and spent most of his life in Southern California.  In addition to his parents, Kevin was preceded in death by his son, Jacob MacKelvie in 1998.  He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen L. MacKelvie of Penn Township; five adored children, Areta, Ian, Andrew, Megan, and Connor MacKelvie; a brother, Matthew MacKelvie; and a half-sister, Deborah Hills Abrahamson.  Visitation Sunday, September 19, 2021 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville.  Parting Prayers will be held on Monday at 9:15 a.m. in the Funeral Home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville.

Kevin was a musician and an accomplished pianist by profession for many years.  When he was very young, he discovered his love of the piano.  He also became a boy scout and followed it through to become an Eagle Scout.  After traveling from gig to gig for a while, in his late 20’s and early 30’s Kevin performed in a band, Discovery, at Disneyland where he met his love, Karen.  He was tireless in his need to perform and give glory to God through his music.  After leaving that gig he was the Music Director at Living Spring Church in Garden Grove, CA.  He loved playing for the Lord about as much as he loved watching his children perform and grow. After he and Karen moved to Pittsburgh, PA he became a member of Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville, where he sang in the church choir.  Even though he said he was “retired” after the move to PA, his love of performance could not be stopped and he found a community that appreciated his incredible musicianship, and of course he continued to play and teach others.  His smile was captivating and came easily to him, especially when talking about how proud he was of his children.  Even though it seems his time was cut short, he had certainly been living his best life.  We remember him fondly and know that he will always be with us.
