Margaret “Peggy” Ann Simmons Powers, 88, of Export, Pennsylvania passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Friday, September 15, 2023. Peggy was born on June. 20, 1935 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania daughter of the late Leo Charles and Margaret Ann (Walker) Simmons. She attended Seton Hill College and graduated from Carnegie Technical Institute (now Carnegie Mellon University) with a degree in Home Economics. She had a career with People’s Natural Gas Company and Weight Watchers International. Peggy was married for 57 years to the late William “Bill” Hamilton Powers Sr. Peggy was a member of Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Export and was a Eucharistic Minister for over 30 years. Peggy was a fantastic cook, superb baker, avid fan of Pittsburgh sporting teams and a dear friend to many people.
Peggy is survived by her two daughters Patricia (Patrick) Carlson, of Madison, WI, Jennifer, of Export; two sons William (Donna) Powers, of Export, and Thomas (Nora) of Avonmore; two grandchildren Kaitlin Powers, of Washington D.C., and Lindsey Powers, of Export. In addition, Peggy is survived by three step grandchildren Kim (Sean) Collins, of Portland, OR, Jeff (Becca) Lowes, of Slippery Rock and Lauren Fusaro of Venice, FL; four nieces Karen Simmons, of San Francisco, CA, Elizabeth Simmons of Waianae, HI; Carla Powers of Red Bank, NJ and Janis Powers of Austin, TX; a nephew Robert “Bobby” (Anabel) Simmons of Los Angeles, CA and three goddaughters Mary Beth Diehl of Murrysville, Mary Ann (Diehl) Baba of Ashburn, Va and Mary Ellen (Diehl) Brennan of Mullica Hill, NJ.
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 19, 2023 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday 10 a.m.at Saint Mary, Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Export. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Peggy’s name to the Westmoreland Community Food Bank, Delmont, PA (www.westmorelandfoodbank.org
