I have known Marie for over 65 years, we were neighbors for 14 of those years, best friends, almost sisters. 1 Special memory that lasted14 years is this story .
Every Christmas Eve I would put my children to bed by 7 o clock, then we would put up the tree and get the pre-wrapped gifts out. By 8 o clock my husband Darrell and I were relaxing watching T V . Around about 8:30 Marie would call and tell us her ham was cooked, and did we want to go over for sandwiches. Of course we did
We went over and Marie got out lots of food. If you know Marie, you know she was very generous and wanted you to eat and enjoy yourself. Just when we were about finished with our sandwiches Marie would say "Bill's not home ,he's working. Darrell, do you think you could help me put together the kids kitchen set they are getting for Christmas? " Sure we would, especially after that good food we had eaten.
Then we noticed the tree was up but not decorated, and the train tracks needed to be put down. So while Marie and I talked and visited in the kitchen; Darrell put together the metal kitchen set, and set up the train tracks.
We joked about it because it happened most every Christmas while we lived next door to Marie. Darrell became proficient at putting together girls toys. Marie was a good friend and a good cook too. Yummy ham on Christmas eve with true friends. What more could you want?
Marie was one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
