Mary Madeline "Mal" (Aurilio) Caliendo

Mary Madeline “Mal” Caliendo, 96, longtime resident of Murrysville, PA, passed peacefully and comforted by her family on January 31, 2023.  Mal’s energetic spirit and joy for life will be remembered with love by her husband of 70 years, Peter Caliendo; their children, Mark (Kathleen) Caliendo, Angela (Susan Jernick) Caliendo, Marianne Mustio (née Caliendo), and David (Kathy) Caliendo; grandchildren Laura (Justin Gruneberg) Mustio, Ryan (Megan) Mustio, and Graem, Quinn, Stephanie, Matthew, and Stephen Caliendo; sister Rae Minutello (née Aurilio); her many nieces and nephews; and the multitude of friends and acquaintances whose lives she brightened.  She is predeceased by her parents Frank and Nellie Aurilio, brother Sidney Aurilio, and nephew, Dale Aurilio.

During her life, Mal enjoyed golfing and cross-country skiing, especially loved the music of Patsy Cline and Randy Travis, and her pepperoni rolls, strawberry rhubarb pies, and manicotti were family favorites.  She was a longtime member and past president of the Murrysville Garden Club and volunteered at Forbes Regional Hospital for more than 35 years.  But more than anything, the greatest joy of Mal’s life was her family.  She was an ever-present fixture in the lives of her grandchildren and was always eager to support and celebrate with her signature bubbly and inquisitive personality.  “Love ya B-I-G!” was her favorite way to end a phone conversation or sign a birthday card-- a perfect reflection of the enthusiastic way she showed up for those in her life.

Visitation will be held at Hart Funeral Home Inc. (3103 Lillian Avenue, Murrysville) on Friday, February 3 2023 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.  Parting prayers will be held on Saturday at 9:45 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 :30 a.m. at Mother of Sorrows Parish (4202 Old William Penn Highway, Murrysville) Interment will follow in All Saints Braddock Catholic Cemetery, Braddock Hills.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Forbes Hospital by visiting Supportahn.org (Choose an AHN Designation to Forbes Hospital).  This would be a beautiful way to honor Mal.
