Mary Patricia (O’Donnell) Koval, affectionately known as Trish, died at home surrounded by love on August 5, 2023 at the age of 84 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Trish was born on February 17, 1939, in Cumberland, Maryland, to Paul and Virginia O’Donnell. She graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Connellsville, PA and from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Throughout her career Trish held various nursing jobs, but she most loved spending time with her family and was always eager to share stories and memories with them. She also enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially after she retired. Trish was known for her outgoing personality and love of talking to strangers. She had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, and she made friends easily wherever she went.
Trish is survived by her husband of 61 years, Raymond Koval, her children Michael Koval and his wife Beth of Delmar, Maryland, and David Koval and his wife Stacey of Tampa, Florida; her grandchildren Dillon, Lauren, Ally, David, Isabel, and Daniel Koval; and two of her siblings, Anne Decker and John O’Donnell. Two siblings, Virginia O’Donnell and Joseph O’Donnell, predeceased her. Trish is thankful for her caregivers during her illness, especially the staff at the University of Pittsburgh Hillman Cancer Center for the gift of seven years of precious time after her first diagnosis, and the staff at Coastal Hospice in Salisbury, MD for their compassionate care in her final months. A memorial mass will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 14, 2023, at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Murrysville. Memorial donations may be made to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center by visiting https://hillman.upmc.com or Coastal Hospice of Salisbury, MD https://www.coastalhospice.org Condolences to the family can be made at www.hartfuneralhomeinc.com.
