Michael “Mike” Joseph Stanko, 79, passed away on December 6, 2023, in Murrysville, PA. Mike was born on June 8, 1944, in McKeesport, PA, son of the late John P. Stanko, and Mathilda (Tillie) Stanko.
He graduated from Duquesne High School in 1962, where he played football throughout his high school years. After graduation, Mike attended The Pennsylvania State University in McKeesport and University Park to complete his bachelor’s degree in Science, with a minor in intramurals, in 1968. After graduation, he went to work for Westinghouse. Shortly into his employment, he was drafted into the United States Army serving his country for almost 2 years during the Vietnam War where he was stationed in Korea. When he returned to Pittsburgh, he continued his career at Westinghouse working at various locations and serving as a key member of the Superconducting Super Collider project. He finished his career at Bechtel Bettis in 2012.
Michael Joseph Stanko spread joy and kindness to everyone in his life. He loved helping others, giving his time and knowledge when he could and his smile and love of sports, especially Penn State football, was known by many. Mike left a lasting impression on everyone he crossed paths with and will be missed by his family, friends, neighbors, and everyone that knew him. While he is no longer with us, he will forever be a part of our lives and for that we are eternally grateful.
Mike is survived by his wife of 50 years, Amber, daughter, Elizabeth, brother, Ron (Rosemary) of Indio, CA and his nephews, Scott of San Diego, CA and Chris of Austin, TX.
