Patricia “Patti” Bon Vargo, 75, of Murrysville, PA, originally of Swissvale, PA, died suddenly on Sunday, July 16, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her loving family. Daughter of the late Anton and Margaret (Rocco) Bon, sister of the late Margaret “Peggy” (Robert) Gottschall of West Chester, PA, and Adele (Patrick) Bon-Shannon of Center Valley, PA.
She is survived by Wayne Vargo, husband of 48 years, and was the loving mother to their children, Brian Vargo, Kevin (Megan) Vargo, and Emily (Chris) Harding.
Beloved Grandma to Henry, William, Rosanna, Lewis, and James Vargo, as well as Emerson and Audrey Grace Harding. She absolutely adored her grandchildren, who gave her tremendous joy and purpose.
Patti was loved by her numerous cousins - specifically staying close with the “Rocco” cousins and was Aunt Patti to several nieces and nephews with whom she always remained in touch and tenderly loved.
A graduate of Swissvale High School and Indiana University of PA, she dedicated her professional life to teaching. While teaching and raising her children, she earned a Master's from the University of Phoenix. During her teaching career, she had a gift for reaching struggling students and developing strong bonds with them. Her teaching didn’t stop at the classroom doors; she was a lifelong educator whose kind and patient methods touched and taught many.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, relishing the sunshine (especially on the beach with her sisters) and took delight in hosting get-togethers for family for any reason: Cinco de Mayo? – no problemo! But her favorite tradition was cooking and hosting Thanksgiving dinner for her extended family – as extended as possible. She was a member of the local American Association of University Women and participated faithfully in their book sales. She enjoyed being outdoors and staying healthy by walking and playing with her grandkids. Neighbors became beloved friends, and then family to Patti. She was generous with her time, energy, and many talents; if someone needed help, she always found a way - usually before being asked, so no one could say “no.” She had a knack for relating to people; her intrinsically empathetic soul made her relatable to so many and will be a cherished memory to those who were fortunate enough to love her.
Visitation is 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2023; and 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2023, at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023, at Mother of Sorrows Church. Interment will follow at St. Barbara Catholic Cemetery in Claridge.
