Phyllis J. (Young) Weiland

Phyllis J. Weiland, 93, of Murrysville, passed away Friday, October 4, 2024, at Forbes Hospital. She was born April 8, 1931, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late Elmer and Virginia (McClintock) Young. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Weiland Jr.; her daughter, Anita (Jim) Berkey; and a brother, Larry (Linda) Young. 

Phyllis received her bachelors degree from Ohio State in education, and was a member of the Delta Zeta sorority. She met her husband Walt, on a blind date, and the two where instantly smitten. The two were married in 1955 and after having their first child, she left teaching to stay home and raise her family. She had a quick wit, and  enjoyed nature, history, stargazing, and birdwatching. She always cared for others before herself. 

Phyllis is survived by a son, Walt L. Weiland; a daughter, Janet (Thomas) Sturgill; a granddaughter, Brianna (Obai Kouli) Weiland; a brother, Walter (Chris) Young; nieces, Susan, Karen, and Molly Young and David Hartmann, David, Galatha, Kenneth, Jamie Margo, Don, Robin, Nathan, and Kendra.
