Raymond James Sero, 79, of Murrysville, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born December 14, 1944, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Samuel and Sarah (Olkosky) Sero. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Margie Frola and a brother-in-law, Dale Showman.
Ray was a graduate of the University of Dayton, the University of Florida, and the University of Pittsburgh. He was a United States Army veteran who served with the 35th Engineering Group from 1969-1971. His career as an engineer with Westinghouse and Elliott Company took him around the globe, but he always found time to write postcards and bring home gifts for his family. Ray was an avid golfer, and will be missed by his friends at Manor Valley Golf Club. Ray was a member of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church in Murrysville, but always managed to find a mass to attend through all of his travels. Ray and Cheryl were Pittsburgh Steelers season ticket holders for over 50 years, through the good, the bad, and the ugly.
He is remembered by all as a kind and generous friend, neighbor, brother, uncle, and dad.
Ray is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cheryl A. (Wassel) Sero; three daughters, Denise (Joel Whitney) Sero, Tracey (Mark Kircher) Sero, and Melanie Koch; a sister, Genie Showman; a brother-in-law, John Frola; numerous nieces and nephews.
