Richard Granatire Obituary

Richard J. Granatire, 91, of Murrysville, formerly of Plum Borough, passed away peacefully July 4, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.  He was born February 4, 1935, in Homestead, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Andrew and Mary (Gamrat) Granatire.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Eugene Granatire, Ronald Granatire, and Bernard Granatire, and his sisters-in-law, Lois Granatire and Grace Granatire.

Richard was dedicated to his family and the US Steel Homestead Works, where he worked as a foreman until retirement.  He loved sports, whether it be hockey, football, baseball or basketball, and enjoyed watching his grandsons playing their sports throughout the years.  Early vacations were spent with his family camping at Pymatuning State Park, he enjoyed taking the boat on the lake and fishing with his brother Gene and nephews. Later vacations were in Clearwater Florida having fun at the beach and seeing our Florida relatives. Richard was always the life of the party. His blue eyes and big smile lit up the room, he was known to strike up a conversation with strangers, you would have thought he actually knew them. Another favorite of Richard’s was going to Wheeling Casino for dog races, he referred to it as “Doc Wheeling” makes you feel good!

He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Joann (Kelsesky) Granatire; his two daughters, Janice (Donald) Musser and Amy (Andrew) Yohe; his three grandchildren, Stephanie (Ryan) Kelley, Ethan (fiancé Taylor) Yohe, and Carson Yohe; his two great-grandchildren, Jamison Kelley and Brayden Kelley; his sisters-in-law, Shirley Granatire and Debbie Verbanick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, July 10, 2026, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., Murrysville.  A blessing service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.
