Robert Schwab Obituary

Robert Charles Schwab, age 92 of Monroeville, PA, peacefully left this world to be with The Lord on May 26, 2026. Bob was charming, caring, easy-going and funny and lived a simple, honest life centered on family, faith, and friends.

Bob was born in Pittsburgh on February 8, 1934, to the late Viola and Elmer Schwab. He graduated from Westinghouse High School in 1952. Bob met his cherished wife, Millie, at a Penn Hills #7 VFD firefighter’s picnic. They married in June 1956, but as soon as they returned from their honeymoon, Bob got his draft notice. He served as a U.S. Army sharpshooter in South Korea with the First Cavalry Division, guarding the DMZ for over two years.

After the Army, Bob returned to Pittsburgh and worked at Logan and Greg Hardware. He then joined Turners Dairy, where he excelled and received many sales awards. In 29 years there, Bob only missed one day of work. He knew every home delivery customer by name and always provided service with a smile.

Bob was a devoted husband who told Millie that he loved her every day. He never failed to buy her beautiful cards and gifts, always checked off every item on her honey-do lists and even helped with grocery shopping and cooking. For many years, they bowled together in a couples bowling league.

He was the kind of dad who regularly left his daughters little notes of love and encouragement and devised his own aphorisms to impart life lessons. He lived for the family's annual beach vacations in North Carolina, New Jersey or Florida.

Bob worked hard and played hard. Whether helping his family with various home and yard projects or just making silly videos to celebrate vacations and holidays, his wisecracks, corny jokes, and observations were always the highlight.

Two of Bob’s favorite places were San Francisco and Hawaii. He was thrilled when his idol, Tony Bennett, gave a surprise performance in a San Francisco hotel lounge that he and Millie were visiting. When Bob first went to Hawaii, a local person called him Lopaka, a Hawaiian version of Robert. It was a special nickname that stuck, and he was known by it for the rest of his life.

Bob enjoyed a variety of activities, foremost of which was sharing fun times with his sole grandchild, Jocelyn. He also loved singing tenor in the Crossroads Presbyterian and Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church choirs and Presbytones barbershop quartet; detailing his cars; watching old movies; reading books about history, cars and planes; fixing and “MacGyvering” things; and building model airplanes.

In addition to his wife Millie, Bob is survived by daughters Lynnann (the late Scott) Reid of Mount Juliet, TN and Darlene (Rich) Matta of Monroeville, PA; granddaughter Jocelyn (Tom) Brant; great-grandson Tyson Brant; and nine nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Lou Hill.

The family would like to extend their love and gratitude to Dr. Pal Muthappan, Maggie, Elaine and Katie as well as Domita, Sharon and the rest of the Heartland Hospice team for the love, care and respect they showed Bob in his final days.
