Robert Wray Obituary

Robert S. Wray, 86, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Redstone Highlands. Born on March 23, 1940, in Pittsburgh, he was the son of the late Porter R. and Jean Sayford Wray. He was a longtime member of Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marilyn Young Wray; two sons, Steven (Suzanne) Wray and Douglas (Beth) Wray; and five grandchildren, Andy, Tyler, Jackson, Allison, and Madeline Wray. He is also survived by his brothers, Bruce and Peter and was preceded in death by his brother, David.
A graduate of Muskingum University—where he met Marilyn—Bob built a distinguished career as a systems analyst. His professional path reflected the evolution of Pittsburgh’s economy, beginning at U.S. Steel, continuing at Westinghouse Electric in the nuclear fuel division, and concluding at the University of Pittsburgh.
Bob was an extraordinary father, endlessly supportive and present playing sports with his sons, coaching their teams, and attending countless games, tournaments, and performances. As a devoted and proud Papap, he and Marilyn traveled frequently to be part of their grandchildren’s lives, no matter where they lived. He cherished family vacations at Deer Lake and Sunset Beach, and he and Marilyn treasured their retirement adventures to Alaska, Mount Rushmore, and Yellowstone National Park. A man of many interests, Bob was a lifelong photographer and an enthusiastic student of emerging computer technology. He loved cycling the trails and back roads of western Pennsylvania, was a world-class body surfer, and in retirement took up both pickleball and golf.
Bob lived his faith with quiet conviction. He was an active leader at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church and found deep fellowship in his men’s breakfast group. He also served regularly with Meals on Wheels, embodying his belief in caring for others.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026 at 2:00 PM at Newlonsburg Presbyterian Church in Murrysville.
