Robert Zarenko Obituary

Robert A. Zarenko, 83, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, at Forbes Hospital in Monroeville.  He was born June 28, 1942, in Pittsburgh, son of the late Alex and Anne (Popovich) Zarenko.  In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Anne Sharek, his brother-in-law, David Peck, and his best friend, John Mair.

Bob met his beloved wife, Linda, in 1964, and they married in 1966, celebrating 59 years together. Bob was a United States Air Force veteran and attended the University of Pittsburgh while working at MSA.  He began his career as a mechanical engineer, working for Fisher Scientific after college. In his thirties, he and Linda purchased Mother Goose Nursery School and Kindergarten, where he spent many treasured years.

Bob and Linda's daughters, Jennifer and Lindsay loved spending time with their dad, their favorite memories include going on weekend campouts with Indian Princesses together. For many years, summers were spent vacationing with family at Myrtle Beach and the Florida Sand Keys and going on cruises in the Caribbean. They also enjoyed spring vacations in Bonita Beach, Florida with their friends, Cliff and Betty.

Bob loved spending time on the water and purchased the first family boat in the 1980’s, spending years on the Allegheny River. As the family grew, a bigger boat and larger body of water were needed, and weekends were spent on Lake Erie.  Bob loved fishing and boating, as well as swimming in the pool with his “favorite” granddaughter, Savannah. Spending the holidays with his family was Bob’s greatest joy, holidays will never be the same without him, he made every minute memorable.

Bob is survived by his loving wife, Linda (Reid) Zarenko; his daughters, Jennifer (Neil) Lawrence, and Lindsay (Stephen) Noble; his granddaughter, Savannah; sisters, Shirley Peck and Judith Zarenko; his brothers, Ronald (Ann) Zarenko, Alex (Paula) Zarenko, and Randy Zarenko; his best friend Cliff Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Bob will be held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Hart Funeral Home Inc., in Murrysville.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the COPD Foundation, www.copdfoundation.org, in Bob’s name.
