Samuel Dauby Obituary

Samuel Alain Robert Dauby, 23, of Charlottesville, VA, formerly of Export, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday, November 20, 2024. He was born February 6, 2001, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX, son of Pierre-Alain and Pamela (Lassa) Dauby. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Lois Lassa.

Samuel brought joy and a kind heart to everyone in his life. He had a wonderful sense of humor and was kind and giving to all. To see Samuel was to see someone fully alive. Samuel’s love of learning and joy of life was clear in every aspect of his life. His desire to study science and care for others led him to pursue medicine at the University of Virginia. His intelligence was not limited to the classroom. Samuel had a beautifully cultivated curiosity and ‘child-like’ spirit that drew others to him, attracted by the joy and love he radiated. He lived his life with humility, intentionality, and charity, and this was reflected in his devotion to Saint Therese of the Little Flower. His fiancée, Caitlin, observed: “He had such an appreciation for what was good and beautiful.” His devotion to Saint Therese was perfectly coupled with the strength and leadership of his patron saint, Saint Sebastian, who was venerated as a selfless leader and strong protector. His Catholic faith was at the very center of his life, and he loved others with the joy of Christ.

Samuel was not only a strong leader but a sensitive and compassionate brother, son, and fiancée. He loved to experience and engage deeply with the world, from playing football with his brothers, to hiking and camping with friends, and traveling with Caitlin. His father enjoyed discussing medicine with Samuel, and his mother appreciated his vulnerability in sharing his heart with her. His resolute positivity was an inspiration and blessing to his family and friends. Samuel appreciated a good joke and the ability of humor to make others feel seen and valued. His good-natured pranks always united those around him in a shared love for life. He strove for excellence in all that he did. He had a musical mind and a deep appreciation for beautiful music, which he refined through playing the violin and viola. He was the only person his family knew who loved both classical music and heavy metal. He loved reading. One of his favorite books was “The Count of Monte Cristo,” which he appreciated for its language and beauty.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers, Andrew and Adam Dauby; a sister, Sophie Dauby; his fiancée, Caitlin Whiteford; paternal grandparents, Pierre and Francoise Dauby; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at Mother of Sorrows Church, 4202 Old William Penn Hwy, Murrysville. Entrusted with arrangements is Hart Funeral Home, Inc.
