Sylvia M. (Hanka) Getty

Sylvia M. Getty, 88, of Murrysville, passed away on May 16, 2025, at Redstone Highlands.  She was born June 7, 1936, in Pittsburgh, daughter of the late John and Helen (Peretin) Hanka.  In addition to her parents and her younger brother John Hanka, Jr., she is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Benjamin H. Getty, and two sons, Benjamin C. Getty and Matthew J. Getty.

Sylvia's greatest joy in life was found in her family and her six children.  Sylvia routinely attended her children's sporting events and supported her husband's involvement in the Murrysville-Export Rotary Club and the American Field Service (AFS).  Sylvia attended Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church for many years.  Anyone who got to know her enjoyed her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.  She will be greatly missed by her children, who count their blessings to have had her in their lives for so many years.

Sylvia is survived by four children, Kenneth (Donna) Getty of Greensburg, Scott (Ann) Getty of Washington Township, Denise Getty-Olson (James Olson) of Park City, UT, and Amy Getty (Jeffrey) Rogers of Kernersville, NC; a sister, Jeanne (Edward) Burtoft of Durham, NC; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren, with another great-grandchild on the way.

Visitation for Sylvia will be Monday, May 19, 2025, at 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at Hart Funeral Home, Inc., in Murrysville.  A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Mother of Sorrows Church in Murrysville, followed by interment at Murrysville Cemetery.  For online condolences, please visit www.hartfuneralhomeinc.com.
