Vincent Valeri Obituary

Vincent P. Valeri, 89, of Murrysville, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on March 25, 2025, following a brief illness. Born April 13, 1935 in Donora, Pennsylvania, Vince was the son of the late Cesare and Leanora (Fresa) Valeri. Growing up in an Italian family in a steel mill town, Vince enjoyed a life steeped in Italian tradition, exemplary work ethic, and love of food, wine, family, and God. He graduated from Donora high school in 1953, then went on to graduate with a mechanical engineering degree from Case Western University.  He met and married his beautiful wife of 63 years, Mary Agnes, “Sis,” (Welsh), and went on to have five children.  His skill and talent in engineering led to a long career, many years of which were served at Westinghouse. This led to a move to Murrysville, Pennsylvania, where they raised their family and have lived in the same house for over 58 years.

Vince was known for his homemade wine, limoncello, soppressata, and sausage, as well as the fun and spirited gatherings of family and friends that joined in these epic events in his basement.  A parishioner of Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church for over 50 years, Vince volunteered for a variety of ministries including the food bank and hospitality ministry. He was an avid gardener and golfer.  He loved watching Steeler games with his wife, and spending time with family, friends, and neighbors.  In fact, once you met him, you usually got an invitation to join his family for a meal.  He was friendly to everyone, full of positivity, and always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.

Vince is survived by many family members living from coast to coast, including his loving wife Mary Agnes, “Sis” (Welsh), daughters Christina Orris (Donald) of Los Angeles, CA,  Angela Russo (Edward) of Pittsburgh, Carla Brotherston (Christopher) of Harrisburg, sons Michael (Kristy) Valeri of Pittsburgh, and Robert (Sheila) Valeri of Shelbyville, KY. He is also survived by grandchildren  Leah (William) Skelton, Andrea Orris, Cara (Justin) Bogardus, Joshua Orris, Edward (Christine) Russo, Nicholas (Chelsea) Russo, Anthony (Katey) Russo, Michele (Justin) Joseph, Marc (Sarah) Russo, Alex (Laura) Cook, Nicholas (Sarah) Cook, Nicole Valeri, Gabriella (Travis) Rauch, Jocelyn Garcia, Ashleigh Kerby, and Cody Miller, as well as over 20 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the many dear friends and neighbors whom he considered part of the family. He will be deeply missed, and always remembered.  His legacy will live on, as we are all better people for having known him.
