William Trosky Obituary

William Joseph “Billy” Trosky, 67, of Export, peacefully passed away with close family at his side on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, at Allegheny General Hospital. He was born October 27, 1956, in Pittsburgh, son of the late George and Ruth (Larkin) Trosky.

Bill was a 1974 graduate of Langley High School. During his high school years, he was awarded the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute’s award for Math and Science and The Bausch and Laumb Honorary Science Award. Bill pursued his passion for Math and Science by attending Carnegie Mellon University where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Math and Computer Science and dual Master’s Degrees in Computer Science and Business Administration. Upon graduating from CMU in 1978, he began his career at Westinghouse Electric Corporation. Bill was granted several patents during his time at Westinghouse, his most famous one being the “Westinghouse Talking Elevator”. In 1993, Bill accepted a position at Emerson Electric Corporation, one of the world’s leading electronics companies, which is based out of St. Louis, Missouri. As the Director of the Software Center for Excellence and Research Labs here in Pittsburgh, Bill played an instrumental role in globalizing the engineering department and was involved in the establishment of engineering centers in India, China, the Philippines, and Italy, to name a few. Bill was appointed Vice President of Corporate Technology and continued in that role until his retirement in December of 2021.

Bill traveled the world extensively during his career but his favorite travels were his “Billy and Anne” adventures that he and Anne would take along with their beloved Shelties, Gabriel and Indi. Bill built the “retirement home of their dreams” in Naples, Florida where he and Anne would spend time as snowbirds over the past five years and he was looking forward to spending more time there during his retirement.

Bill was an avid tropical fish hobbyist and collector of art glass. His most cherished collection was his sealife glass paperweights or as he referred to them his “glass fishy bubbles”. He would purchase them during his travels all over the world and knew several world famous glass artists personally.

During his retirement, Bill took up an interest in cooking and enjoyed watching the Food Network, Beat Bobby Flay, and Baking Championships. He could make a mean meatloaf and “Uncle Billy’s Famous Chocolate Chip Cookies” which he would bake dozens for every family event and wedding.

Billy was the life of every party and get together. His smile and eyes would light up every room that he entered and his stories would keep you entertained and laughing for hours. He enjoyed listening to music, playing Kakuro puzzles on his phone for hours, sitting on the front porch or in the backyard by the pool chatting with neighbors over a glass of wine. He always welcomed everyone into his home. His life was devoted to his wife and his faithful companions, Buster, Bailey, Shadow, Levi and Gabriel, and Indi.

Bill is survived by his wife of 32 years, Anne (Zulawinski) Trosky and his best buddy, Indi, two brothers, George (Victoria) Trosky, James Trosky; a sister Diane Kaiser; seven nieces and nephews, George, Shaun, Alanna, Larkin, Brad, Kristin, Kelsey;  and 10 great nieces and nephews A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 18, 2023, at Mother of Sorrows Church, Murrysville.
